Seventeen plays in eight days is a pretty rough. What makes it more difficult is when the subject matter is crucial and potent, but also horrifying and depressing. Each and every one of the plays dealt with a different aspect of genocide. The playwright, Erik Ehn, who teaches in the theater department at Brown University, wrote all the plays to be performed by theater companies from all over the United States, and several from outside the U.S. At first there was a strong interest by many magazines and newspapers, but then the enthusiasm faded. The subject matter was too intense and scary to think about. Finally, after a good deal of persuasion, bordering on arm-twisting, the New York Times came. It was worth all the effort and nail biting to achieve such a fine critical response.
