FORTY FOR 40
DANCE THEATER WORKSHOP WILL ROCK, RATTLE AND DANCE DURING 40 FORWARD,
A 40th ANNIVERSARY BASH, NOVEMBER 7
Consider this a world-wide
invitation to Dance Theater Workshop’s building-wide 40th
birthday party that plans to command every nook and cranny of DTW’s
four floors—even the theater. The party, courtesy of Altria
Group, Inc., takes place on November 7 from 5pm–9pm. And it’s
all free.
So beware, there’ll be dancers
everywhere: Ellis Wood performs up and down the staircase; Brian
Rogers’s dancers re-invent garbage cans in the trash room;
chameckilerner snuggles in the box office. The kitchen, as well
as the hallways, offices, terrace and the building’s revolving
front door will be brightened with dance, video projections and
digital installations.
Also look out for members of Susan
Marshall & Company, who will commandeer the Executive Director’s
office. Suzanne Appel will perform a “workplace dance”
in the Development Office cubicle; Cary Baker will present an excerpt
from “Mimesis” in the reception area; while Keely Garfield
is not yet certain how she will occupy the conference room. Mary
Cochran will perform Sara Hook’s “Valeska’s Vitriol”
at the DTW bar, while Megan Sprenger squeezes five dancers in the
studio closets and Cynthia Hopkins dances downstairs in the woodshop.
The dressing rooms will also become stages for H.T. Chen (men’s)
and David Parker (women’s).
Halfway through the dancing, happy
birthday wishes and greetings will be offered from the likes of
DTW Executive Director Marion Dienstag, DTW Board President Virginia
Millhiser and New York City Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate D.
Levin, who will read a proclamation from Mayor Michael Bloomberg
declaring November 7, 2005 “Dance Theater Workshop Day”
in New York City. Food and drinks will be available all night.
The cast of characters (which also
includes Donald Byrd, Claire Danes, Julie Atlas Muz and Jennifer
Monson) will be relinquished on demand, or by taking a look below:
